Preparing your Outdoor Space for Warm Weather

Preparing your Outdoor Space for Warm Weather

Summer is almost here! This year it’s especially desirable to enjoy the peace and tranquillity your own backyard can give you.  As spring turns to summer, You’ll be able to hit the pool and spend more time enjoying the outdoors. However, it’s not as simple as it seems. The countdown to summer and the warm weather has already begun, but there’s still a lot of prep work that needs to be done.

Pools and Hot tubs:

Ensure that the system is in good working order to maximize the time you spend outdoors.   Prior to the onset of the summer season, make sure that all aspects of your electrical system, including your pool lights, are in good working order. For the sake of safety, make sure to have any electrical work completed before you start using the pool.

Main Panel and Breaker:

Make sure that you maintain clear access and proper lighting in front of your main panel. It will be helpful if you keep a flashlight nearby. In addition to this, make sure you understand how to find a “tripped” breaker, and if you do, this is what you should do:

Firstly, turn off all the switches and unplug all the items that have lost power. Then, the next step is to reset the “tripped” breaker, followed by switching it to the “off” position, and then again back to the “on” position.

If there are electrical issues, and you don’t feel safe doing this when the rest of your electricity is still live, make sure you know where your main electrical breaker is. If you don’t have a main electrical breaker, it is better to get a new panel with the main shutoff. This will allow you to turn the power off to your whole house.

Clean the light fixtures and cameras:

Outdoor light fixtures and cameras require regular cleaning and inspection. Light fixtures like lanterns or deck post lights can get filled with insects or dirt, so they need to be taken apart for dusting or wiping. Remove dust from the security cameras with the help of microfibre cloth. In addition, fixtures and security cameras need to be cleaned of all cobwebs.

Service all the electric and gas-powered tools

Landscaping and gardening tools that are electric or gas-powered require maintenance or service before you can use them.

Electric tools, like a cordless hedge trimmer, have to be fully charged before use. If the battery doesn’t work properly, then you will need to replace it.  Gas-powered tools need to have their fluids and tires checked periodically.

There are all the preliminary things that have to be done before you can enjoy your outdoor space. You can visit our website https://getquickspark.com.au/services/ if you are in need of a 24 hr electrician.
